Special Sessions:
Charles W. Reimer Celebration
In recognition of the contributions of Charlie Reimer to the field of diatom research and to many of us personally, we plan to hold a special celebration at the NADS meeting. A scientific session will be designated for research inspired and made possible by Charlie. We are requesting that papers presented during this session be submitted as manuscripts for publication in a volume (Diatom Research or Proc. Academy of Sciences of Philadelphia). Please consider submitting a paper for this special session. On Friday night, we will hold a Reimer Celebration Dinner in honor of Charlie. There will be a chance to tell stories, make dedications and lift a glass to the man who influenced so many of us.

Diatoms in Education
NADS 2009 will include a special session to bring together people who use diatoms in teaching or outreach. If you are interested in participating in a round-table discussion on Diatoms in Education, contact Virginia Card.

Auction:
One evening social is reserved for the lively NADS auction. Funds raised are used to support student registration and travel. NADS participants are encouraged to bring money and auction items: books, a favorite diatom photo, a bottle of wine, home brews, t-shirts, diatomicana, signatures of famous diatomists, foodstuffs from home, prints, NADS memorabilia, whatever might help raise funds for students.

Scum Run:
One afternoon will be dedicated to the Scum Run. Put together of team of young and old diatomists to negotiate a physically unchallenging course and test your diatom trivia and collecting and microscopy skills under pressure.

NADS 2011?
Is your lab ready to host NADS? It's probably your turn! There have been a number of requests for a Canadian meeting. Come to Lakeside with your proposal of where you want to host the 21st Gathering of North American Diatom Symposium!
