NADS 2011 Meeting: Field Trip
Glacier National Park - FILLED

Highlights: We will cross the Continental Divide at Logan Pass via The Going-To-The-Sun Road, weather and construction permitting, and experience several life zones in the process: Pacific rainforest (western hemlock, red cedar), montane (spruce-fir, Douglas fir, lodgepole pine), alpine, and sagebrush steppe. Chance to see grizzly bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, ptarmigan, and other wildlife. Chance to glimpse some of Glacier Park's famous glaciers before they are predicted to disappear in 2030. Time permitting we will visit Many Glacier, a rustic but grand turn-of-the-century lodge on the east side of the Park, and take a couple short, easy hikes to two of Loren's favorite places. Spectacular scenery at every turn; bring your cameras and sturdy walking shoes. This amazing field trip will take us from the headwaters of the Columbia River (Pacific drainage) into the headwaters of the Saskatchewan River (Hudson Bay drainage), then to the headwaters of the Missouri River (Gulf of Mexico), and back to the Pacific side of the Divide. All in one day! Whew!
